The 5xFitness Consistency Blueprint

The 5xFitness Consistency Blueprint

Most people do not need another fitness plan.

You probably already have a good idea that you should exercise, eat reasonably well and look after yourself. You may even know exactly what you would like to change. The problem usually comes later, when the plan meets real life and becomes harder to keep doing.

Work gets busy. Family life changes. Motivation disappears. You miss a few sessions. Your eating gets a bit off track. Or you realise that the routine you planned does not actually fit the week you are having.

It is easy to approach a fitness goal as though success means finding the right plan and then sticking to it. You set a goal, make some changes and try to follow the plan as closely as possible. When things go well, you keep going. When they don't, it can feel like you have fallen off track and need to start again.

But your health and fitness are not something you can simply plan once and then follow forever. Your goals can change, your circumstances can change and what works for you can change too.

The more useful skill is learning how to work through those changes without losing sight of what you are trying to achieve.

That is the problem the 5xFitness Consistency Blueprint is designed to help with.

It is not another training programme or diet plan. It is an evidence-informed framework for helping you work through your fitness in a way that can change as your life changes. The idea is that you learn some simple principles, put them into practice, see what happens and become better at working out what to do next.

THE FIVE PRINCIPLES

At the front of the Blueprint are five simple principles:

PLAN → TAKE ACTION → BE CONSISTENT → LEARN MORE → BECOME EMPOWERED

They are deliberately simple. They are not five more things you have to remember while you are trying to get through your week. They are a way of thinking about your health and fitness and the decisions you make along the way.

Planning gives you some direction. Taking action turns the plan into something real. Being consistent is about continuing with the behaviours that matter, even when the way you do them needs to change. Learning more means paying attention to what is actually happening and using that experience to make better decisions. Becoming empowered means becoming more capable of making those decisions for yourself.

That last part is important to me.

I do not think the answer to fitness is having someone else make every decision for you. You might need help, especially when you are getting started or when you are stuck, but the longer-term goal should be that you understand more about what you are doing and become better at making those decisions yourself.

WHAT'S INSIDE

The Blueprint brings the ideas together across four areas: Principles, Habits, Food and Exercise.

The first part, Principles, looks at where you are starting from, what you want to achieve and what might be getting in the way. It gives you a place to work out what matters and where to begin.

From there, you look at Habits and how to make the things you want to do easier to repeat. You start to look at what helps you take action and what tends to get in the way.

Food is about making eating simpler and finding an approach that works in your normal week, rather than something you can only manage when everything goes to plan.

Finally, Exercise brings those ideas into training. You learn the basics of how to train, how to make progress and how to build training into your life.

The four areas build on each other, but you do not have to think of them as four things you finish and leave behind.

THE BLUEPRINT IS NOT SOMETHING YOU FINISH

You might use the Blueprint to help you get started.

You might come back to it when you have lost your routine, or when something in your life has changed.

You might use the Weekly Reset when your week gets away from you, return to the food section when eating has become difficult, or go back to the exercise section when your training needs to change.

The point is not to finish the Blueprint and move on.

The point is to become better at working through your own fitness.

The resources are there to help when they are useful. You do not need to keep completing them just for the sake of completing them.

You do not need to get everything right the first time. You need to be able to look at what is happening, make a decision, learn from what happens next and adjust when you need to.

That might mean changing your training schedule, simplifying your meals, finding a different way to fit exercise into your week or reconsidering what you are working towards.

The important thing is that you are learning how to manage those decisions rather than feeling like every change means you have to start again.

GOING IT ALONE

You do not have to work with a coach to use the 5xFitness approach.

You can work through it yourself, using the resources available to help you understand what you are trying to achieve, decide what to do and make adjustments as you go.

The 5xFitness App can be your practical place to train and keep track of what you are doing. You can use the workouts and tracking tools to put the ideas into practice rather than just reading about them. Download the 5xFitness App.

You can also use the 5xFitness YouTube channel when you want guidance with your exercise and learn about applying the 5 Principles. There are workouts and practical videos you can use when you need something to follow, without needing someone beside you.

The Blueprint resources give you somewhere to go when you need to think through the bigger picture. You might use them when you are getting started, when your routine has stopped working or when you are trying to work out what needs to change.

The important part is that you are not just collecting workouts or ticking off resources.

You are using them to help you make decisions for yourself.

You might use the app to train, a YouTube workout when you need something different, and a Blueprint resource when you need to step back and work out what is happening. Over time, the aim is that you become more comfortable deciding what you need and making those adjustments yourself.

That is what becoming empowered is about. Get started with the Consistency Roadmap!

WHERE COACHING FITS

The Blueprint gives you the framework. Coaching is different.

You do not need me to make every decision for you.

My job is to help you see what is important, understand what needs to happen next and work through the parts you are struggling with. That might mean helping you apply the Blueprint to your own situation rather than simply giving you another plan to follow.

Sometimes you need someone to help you work out what is getting in the way. Sometimes you need a different perspective, a bit of accountability or someone to challenge the way you are approaching something.

The goal is not to make you dependent on coaching.

It is to help you become more confident managing your own health and fitness.
